Iris van Herpen SS 2011

"Crystallization" fashion show by Iris Van Herpen, with the concept of the show inspired by transformation of liquid into crystals. I love the weave of leather, and the sexy punk look of draped chains. It is a collaboration between innovative Dutch designer Iris van Herpen and architectural footwear label United Nude.

Work in progress

I've been experimenting in the past few days... definitely a work in progress, I don't think I'll actually use this but I kind of like the outcome so here it is.

Anne-Sofie Madsen

I am absolutely in love and inspired by Anne-Sofie Madsen. A collection inspired by Maori art, is just absolutely beautiful, and her illustrations are stunning! According to the designer, the idea behind this was to combine and confront traditional Maori art with classic European clothing.

Bham Local Talent

After getting myself the best croissant I've ever had (it is exactly how I imagine croissants in France to be like), I headed to House of Fraser, where they launched a new initiative in Birmingham, which supports local creative talent. Gavin Douglas and illustrators ELF & STONE created a live display installation on the 3rd floor of the department store. I wasn't sure what to expect, maybe something bigger but as you go up the escalator you are greeted with the large illustrations hung off the ceiling which was a pleasant surprise. I like the illustrations especially the faces and elongated bodies, though it was not the neatest work/display. However, I am glad to see Birmingham taking initiative in supporting local talents! Go Bham!

Advanced Style

A friend of mine posted this on her facebook wall and I couldn't help but smile the whole time I watched this video. I've always feared of getting old(er), but this has definitely given me comfort. So thanks to her awesome find, I am going to share this with you guys. Enjoy.

Yukari Terakado

Yukari Terakado is a Japanese illustrator, although I do not know her personally, I bet she has a helluvah patience, I mean look at the hair! The works on her website dates back to 2008, and you can definitely see how her style have progressed and how it became more defined.

Birmingham B-Boy

Thought I'd share this with you guys, one of the Birmingham B-Boys (Break dancing boys) I met the other night.

Alex Daniel

Alex Daniel, an artist with no website as far as I can tell. Such a pity because I would love to see more of his work. I see a bit of Egon Schiele in his work, I love how all their chins are lift up,  and how you can observe his brushstrokes, so sure and powerful.

In a mood

Hm, this is really horrible, I'm still in a funk... a bad funk. I am desperately looking for a job as the UK government recently changed their post-study visa policies.. so that gives me less time than I thought. My birthday is also coming up, and am not as excited as I usually would do around my birthday. Urgh, what to do with myself?

Julie Verhoeven: collaboration queen

I don't understand where all the sun went? It's as if it decided to give us a few days of summer then to take it away when I am not done with it! What's worst is that my mood is definitely dropping, and my whole body is aching...and after speaking with a few others, it's not just me.

Today I figured I'll talk about one of my favourite illustrators, Julie Verhoeven. She is an artist/designer based in London, UK and after studying fashion she began her career by assisting John Galliano. In 2002, she launched her own fashion label, Gibo, and went on to collaborate with global brands including Louis Vuitton, Mulberry, Loewe, Versace and so far as products collaboration with H&M, Lancome, V&A and Selfridges. What I love about her is how far she is willing you push the boundary of Art, combining it with many aspect of our lifestyles. She created Christmas cards collection for a renowned high-street Topshop, designed record sleeves for Nouvelle Vague and much much more.

POETS DAY

Today I shall write about Johan Thornqvist: its Friday and his work makes me happy! Oh but before I do, I added Conrad Roset on facebook, and left him a message and he wrote back! He said he likes my blog and I've asked him if he would take a commission for a piece for my birthday...and now I shall wait for his reply... He seems so sweet and to reply back, makes him that much cooler of an artist!

So back to Johan Thornqvist, a Swedish illustrator, his signature is drawing imaginary cities on photographs. Such a simple idea but is executed excellently. He makes me want to go away to these cities for the weekend.

Happy Poets Day! (piss.off.early.tomorrow.is.saturday.)

Finally feeling inspired

Maybe it's the sunshine, but all the sudden I'm feeling rather inspired.

Conrad Roset

Conrat Roset is from Barcelona, Spain and is only 27 years old, with clients like Coca Cola, Zara, and Adidas.

I would love to see him collaborate with a kitchenware brand, and create the most chic dessert plates! Imagine those sexy drawings and a cupcake just perfectly placed between the drawing.... yum yum with extra oompff factor... to my liking! Maybe I'm just hungry, or I ate too much cheese but I for one would love to see more artwork in kitchenware.

And if that wish never come true than I'll just continue to save up till I can commission a piece!

his choice of content and lines reminds me a little of Egon Schiele

and instead of Egon Schiele's earthy colors, he opts for a POP effect.

mydeadpony

Raphael Vicenzi aka mydeadpony, is a self-taught illustrator whos works have been published in magazines like Computer Arts, Advanced Photoshop and books like Fashion Now. 3. He mixes watercolor and digital media and at first glimpse, his work seem light and airy, but if stared long enough it carries deeper meaning and is quite dark (reflected in words, and further description can be read on his deviantart). Despite his fame, to me, he still seems in touch with his audience, and remains friendly on his personal account on Deviantart as well as his website. If you are interested in his work, original prints can be bought from his Etsy account.

His further clients includes: Graniph, String Republic ....... once again combining fashion and art! Personally, I would prefer more of his other works but if that is what your client wants, then be it. Opinions?
