Watercolor fashion illustration by Cate Parr

I bought myself a little present today! It is the original work of Cate Parr, whos inspiration comes from places such as the French and Italian Cinema, along with music, theatre and dance. The medium used was watercolour and pen on paper over preliminary pencil.

I am sooooooo incredibly happy with my purchase. I can't even begin to describe how I'm feeling right now. What do you guys think? Hm, I'm going to have to think of how to frame this now..

:) :) :) Happy happy day for me indeed!

Lonely Glasses

Jessica Atkinson solves that horrible feeling, loneliness. She created "a pair of non-prescription glasses that function as an anti-lonely device, giving the user the feeling of being surrounded by people when worn." Personally, I would love to wear this when I feel like having a me-day, at the park. For some reason, multi-tasking is just not possible for me, and when it comes to reading with background noise I find it impossible. So this is actually a perfect fix!

Genius!

Say Hello to to the beginning of Summer!

So today is the day I've been waiting for, since yesterday. The temperature in Birmingham will reach 19 C, at 3 pm. Currently, its 16 C and I am preparing my camera for when it reaches its peak. I plan to go out and snap some photos of what the citizen of Birmingham chooses to wear on this 'fine day'!

after watching Top Gear, some more work, then a walk around the city centre (got myself my favourite nougat from Carluccio), I am back with photos as promised.

I adore the nice touch of socks under ballet flats, a chic ballerina in modern life!

worth zooming in on her bag :)

when I thought I lost all hope of fashionistas in Bham...one appeared! A successful contrast between sweet and grunge.

Coolest guy in Bham

On my way back from uni today, I walked passed this guy, sitting in a secluded corny reading a book and smoking what I figured, was a cigarette. He seemed like the coolest guy in town, with his huge afro, hanging out and enjoying his own company. I couldn't help but walk across the yard and told him how cool he looks, and if I could take a photograph for my new blog, he was more than happy. While I was taking different shots, he said "I would offer you some, I was just *eating a burger* but I just finished, I could make another though if you'd like". Not only does he have a stye, he has a fro, AND he's friendly! If only there were more people like that in the world. Oh and did I mention, he asked how I was enjoying this fine day, and that he was just enjoying the beautiful tree with pink flowers across the street. Then as I walked off, he made my day and said that "your style is not bad yourself".

Bless him!

Moody Cow Fashion Show

Today I went to the fashion show event and my feet are in total pain, I guess it has been a while since I stood that long (...okay it wasn't thaaat long).  The event was organised by students and staff of Birmingham Institute of Art, mainly from MA Fashion Promotion & MA Fashion Textiles. I wasn't sure what to expect of the event, but overall, it was impressive, considering everything was non-profit, to us atleast! Students modelled, along with a couple of professionals, dressed in vintage attire, red lips and thick black liner. Overall effect was total retro glam. I was even able to style one of the outfits: knee-length purple suede with fuchsia loose blouse, completely inspired of this season's color blocks. I was particularly impressed with how much one can buy with £90 of drinks and snacks. Other than the good feast, guests were seen carrying luxury bags such as YSL, Louis Vuitton, a good mix between vintage fashion and luxury. The event was definitely well attended, and many photographers seemed to enjoy snapping away the bright colors of different outfits. Great night.

Daniel Egneus's 2 in 1

These illustrations by Daniel Egneus are a few of my favourite. This here in my opinion is a good example of excellent composition. He also collaborated with a popular high-street brand, and designed a T-shirt collection for H&M, for its Fall 08-09 collection. As you all remember, during that period, many artists collaborated with brands, combining fashion and art.

More of his work can be found here.

A force to be reckon with!

If only I coud draw as well as Annita Maslov, her illustrations are absolutely divine. If I didn't have to care so much about what people think of tattoos in workplace, I would literally ink my whole body with her drawings! I love that her portraits all have similar eye structure, and yet manages to create such variety and emotion between each one.

Here are some of my favourites from her tumblr account:

and my most favourite.

I would love to get her permission and style a photoshoot, using her images as a source of inspiration. Maybe a potential project? Hm..
